-[Eat]- New Philly’s Best Sports Bar, Chicago
Just yesterday, Philly’s Best opened a brand new location on Chicago’s far north side, and it’s a Sports Bar! On the corner of Sheridan Road and Pratt Boulevard, this location is adorned with plenty of tv’s, so you can watch your latest sports games from any angle inside or just outside from their outdoor patio. And eventually, Philly’s Best will serve beer once their liquor license goes through, which means that their current outdoor patio will turn into a beer garden.
Their menu features all their original favorites including steak sandwiches, grinders, burgers, pizza, salads, along with a brand new feature: A Fry Bar! Their Fry Bar offers up to 35 ingredients as toppings or sides on a bed of duck fat fries. And still, most items are priced under $10. The combination we created in their Fry Bar was Texas Chili, Merkt’s Sharp Cheddar Cheese, olives, and sour cream, and every part came together in a very delicious blend. You can get your fries with a choice of 4 or 8 toppings, so anyone can find a combination suited perfectly to taste.
We had the pleasure to sit down with owner, Michael Markellos, who actually lived in the neighborhood for many years after moving here with his family from Philadelphia. As a matter of fact, his father owned his own eatery called Eastern Style Pizza, in West Rogers Park, and although he is now retired, the establishment is still open today. As we enjoyed their menu’s classic and savory Philly Cheese Steaks, with the side of fries we created from the Fry Bar, Markellos recalled the various changes the neighborhood has seen since his move to Chicago, an area of the city he seems to know very well. There is no doubt that this business is run by love for city and good food, and as personable and friendly as the owner, this establishment is exactly what the neighborhood needs. Not mention, your steps away from the lake.
